POLOKWANE – THOUSANDS of people against afrophobia and xenophobia joined a protest march organised by the ANC in Polokwane last Friday.

The march started at the park opposite the SABC and ended at the Jack Botes Hall where the gathering was addressed by ANC provincial chairperson and premier, Stanley Mathabatha.

Many ANC stalwarts and MK military veterans association members as well as ANC Youth League and ANC Women’s League members attended, as well as strategic partners from various labour unions, business people, Polokwane City soccer club players and foreigners from countries including Malaysia, Somalia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Leaders of various church denominations were also in attendance and ANC supporters were bussed in from rural areas of the province.

ANC provincial secretary, Nocks Seabi, said the march sought to discourage further acts of xenophobia and afrophobia. He commended law-abiding citizens who embraced and welcomed people of foreign nationalities amongst them.

“As the ANC in Limpopo we have mobilised over 1 000 people to participate in this gathering and we stand in solidarity with citizens that are against racism, xenophobia and afrophobia,” he said.
