UL celebrates autumn graduation

THE University of Limpopo (UL) held their autumn graduation ceremony at the multi-purpose centre last week.

LIMPOPO – THE University of Limpopo (UL) held their autumn graduation ceremony at the multi-purpose centre last week.

The event was celebrated by graduates, friends, families and personnel who all shared the joy of excellency at their institution.

Speaking during the ceremony, deputy vice chancellor, Prof Mbudzeni Sibara, congratulated the graduates and said it was indeed a moment to celebrate excellence.

He said they should be proud of their achievements and should continue to work hard so that they could attain success in their chosen fields. “It took a lot of determination and hard work for everyone to make it this far. Today 386 candidates will be receiving their certificates; you have made us proud and we can only wish you the best of luck in the things you wish to do in the future,” he said.

Agriculture and rural development MEC, Joy Matshoge, said now that the graduates had learnt the skills, they should use them to build and develop their communities. “Go out and produce results that will benefit the community. Be an outstanding leader in your field and help find solutions for Africa,” she said.

Matshoge said the university had produce candidates with good leadership in professions such as journalism and law, among others. “This is an institution for people who share the same vision and it accommodates all including those living with disabilities,” she added.

She said the campus is associated with good names such as Onkgopotse Tiro and Robert Sobukwe, amongst others, who were activists and fought for an equal education for all.

B.Com economics graduate Tshembani Hlongwane said he was looking forward to entering the corporate world and wanted to enrol for a post graduate degree as well. “Today I celebrate the hard work I have put in all these years. I am proud of my achievements thus far and look forward to more graduation ceremonies,” he said.
