POLOKWANE – Road works in Ben Harris Street, Westenburg will continue until the end of June. Road works in many areas of the city have been done in recently months in line with the municipal infrastructure development project towards the operation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.

Mantlako Sebaka, spokesperson for the municipal transport services, said Ben Harris Street is one of the streets developed as part of the first phase upgrading of a multi-year project for the Integrated Rapid Transport System (IRPTS) infrastructure network. Westenburg residents recently complained that in Ben Harris, only side of the road was being worked on.

“The one lane was closed and the road was dug up, filled with grit and other materials and thereafter tarred.”one resident said. Another resident said she almost fell at the corner of Buys and Ben Harris Street, because of the uneven surface. “The one side is elevated, which almost caused an injury.

Some motorists have complained about damage being done to their vehicles.

Sebaka said the municipality was aware of the problem.

He confirmed that road works will be finalised on June 30.
