POLOKWANE – According to Adrie Ras, the area manager of the Theunis Fichardt Hospitium, hawkers in the area of the care centre have become a problem.

Loud music comes from nearby pavements as well as smoke, as a result of fires being made.

The hospitium has not reported the matter to the police or municipality.

At the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital, a stone’s throw away, hawkers are found piling up rubbish from the hospital which often results in a stench in the area.

According to municipal spokesperson Malesela Maubane, they hold regular meetings with the hospitium regarding issues, and provides regular feedback.

“We are clear on the matter. No person is allowed to sleep or make a fire on the pavement. As for loud music, residents can phone the police as it is regarded as disturbance of peace,” he said.

He committed that the municipality’s enforcement section would investigate and take action if people are found to be making fires on the pavements, while the municipality’s local economic development section will engage with hawkers at the hospital and hospitium to inform them on compliance issues.
