CPF get hands dirty

POLOKWANE – Members of the sector 8 (small holdings and farms) community policing forum (CPF), in conjunction with members of the Limpopo Fire Protection Association (FPA) recently pushed up their sleeves and took up their own cleaning project along the Soetdorings road.

Several residents in the area have vowed to make this a regular exercise in an effort to rid the area of rubbish that could result in among other things, the spreading of fires.

The cleaning operation will continue throughout the coming winter months and the CPF urges residents to take the necessary precautions and make the needed counter fires and fire paths in an effort to stop veld fires from causing damage to property, feeding and buildings.

The effort made by the CPF members stems from several complaints to the local municipality about the state of this stretch of road.

In recent years, the CPF filled as many as 100 refuse bags just in the first kilometre stretch of the road. The rubbish usually comes from vehicles passing. Papers and other items fuel veld fires. Chairperson for the Polokwane PFPA, Coenraad Groenewald said it was important for residents to look at their environment and consider the dangers of fire. He said besides preventing fire damage to property and feeding, residents also comply with the law when making the effort.
