Burglars flee from Rietfontein plot

A domestic worker was tied up and threatened on a small holding on Rietfontein after three men broke into the house on Tuesday morning.

POLOKWANE – A domestic worker was tied up and threatened on a small holding on Rietfontein after three men broke into the house on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at 10:00.

Home owner Riëtte van der Linde said upon returning from dropping her kids off a school, she learned of the incident.

“My domestic worker was alone inside the house, with other workers outside on the premises when two of them noticed that something was wrong.”

The workers went to the house when they noticed three strange men.

The men then charged out of the house to Van der Linde’s mother’s house, which is also situated on the premises.

“My mother called the Elriet community police forum (CPF) for assistance and they responded immediately and also called the police.”

The men fled the scene before the CPF and police arrived.

“My domestic worker explained to me that the men wanted they keys to the safe in the house. She pleaded with them not to hurt her, but she was still tied up. The men took two television sets and a bicycle,” Van der Linde said.

Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, Westenburg police spokesperson, confirmed that the Westenburg police are investigating a case of house robbery.

“After the incident was reported the police and CPF launched a manhunt. The suspects were caught and the stolen goods were returned to the owner. The suspects remain in police custody and will appear in the Polokwane magistrate’s court soon,” Mashiane said.

Van der Linde thanked the police and CPF for their fast response: “It really feels good to know that we can count on our CPF and police in time of need. Thank you very much for your quick response.”

Van der Linde posted on Facebook that she was thankful her domestic worker was unharmed.
