Hawks on to travel agent

The Hawks have confirmed that they are investigating allegations against Kim Robbertse, an independent travel agent in the city.

POLOKWANE – The Hawks have confirmed that they are investigating allegations against Kim Robbertse, an independent travel agent in the city.

The allegations involved an alleged travel ticket discount scheme, with hundreds of residents and people abroad purchasing discounted flight tickets that later proved to be fraudulent.

Following Robbertse’s first court appearance before the Polokwane magistrate’s court on Friday, March 20, Robbertse’s legal representative, Andries Rheeder, confirmed that the case had been provisionally withdrawn as the matter had been referred to the Hawks for investigation.

Rheeder said in light of this, any further court appearances by his client were still to be determined.

Hawks spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, confirmed that the case was being investigated by them.

The police and the media received numerous complaints from people in the city and abroad, mainly from London, who were left stranded at Heathrow Airport in December as a result of the alleged ticket scam.

Hundreds of South Africans, most of them expatriats living in London fell victim to the e-ticket scam.
