Sub Editor

(Afrikaans & English)

Duties would include:
• Proofreading editorial copy for grammatical and stylistic errors and factual accuracy
• Editing and re-writing copy, condensing and polishing of news reports to keep newspaper tone consistent
• Checking headline punctuation and captions to ensure accuracy

Skills and personal attributes:
• Excellent writing skills in both Afrikaans and English
• Good understanding and knowledge of media law and ethnics (advantageous)
• Meticulous and organised with a strong commitment to excellence and accuracy
• Extensive general knowledge and wide variety of interests
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work in a team as well as independently
• Ability to multi-task between numerous projects and adhere to strict deadlines
• A high level of computer literacy

A tertiary language and/or journalism qualification will be advantageous.

Journalist

(Afrikaans & English)

• Do you have a passion for writing?

• Do you care about your community?

• Are you interested in newspaper journalism and

– Have a flair for writing and are fluent in English and Afrikaans
– Are a people’s person
– Are self-motivated
– Are computer literate and able to type well
– Live in the operational area of Polokwane
– Have a reliable vehicle and a driver’s licence
– Willing to work evenings and weekends

Previous experience as a journalist and/or qualification in journalism will be an advantage.
