LIMPOPO – The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) has accused Eskom of using workers as scapegoats everytime there is a delay in the construction work of the Medupi power station.

This after workers who took part in an illegal march at the site recently have been told not to report for duty pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing against them reports The Citizen.

Eskom spokesman, Khulu Phasiwe confirmed to on Wednesday morning that out of the 14 000 workers, 1 700 of them were instructed not to report for duty as they are facing disciplinary action for having taken part in an illegal march, just before the Easter break.

“Eskom’s actions would result in it again asking for more money, forcing consumers to dig deeper into their pockets for tarrifs,” says  Numsa’s Steve Nhlapho.
