Man stoned to death

A 30-year-old man from Rivercross in Ga-Madiseng was stoned to death in a mob justice incident after community members from Driekop near Burgersfort accused him of stealing.

BURGERSFORT – KHOMOTSO Mathebula, a 30-year-old man from Rivercross in Ga-Madiseng was stoned to death in a mob justice incident on Sunday after community members from Driekop near Burgersfort accused him of stealing flat screen TVs from various residents.

Mecklenburg police spokesperson, Const Elliot Setati, said no arrests had been made yet and that an investigation into a murder case had been opened.

Setati said they were currently on an outreach to Driekop community to inform them against mob justice.

“We condemn mob justice as an unacceptable behaviour from community and we urge the community to stop taking justice into their own hands. Instead, they must report to Maj Martin Seabi at (015) 615 0204 whenever goods are stolen.”
