Sewer water flows unchecked

POLOKWANE – Overflowing, blocked drains in Chroom Street over the past two weeks caused a lot of discomfort and inconvenience to business owners and their customers alike.

In some businesses, sewer water streamed into their buildings and also overflowed from the toilets.

According to the manager of one of these buildings, as well as some security guards stationed in the area, they problem had been reported to the municipality many times, to no avail. “Hours after the matter was reported and our office building was already flooded with sewer water, a municipal bakkie arrived. The man in the bakkie just came to tell us that he would not be able to sort the problem out on his own. They contacted their control room to ask for assistance, which took another few hours to arrive,” the manager explained.

Municipal spokesperson, Malesela Maubane, said the municipality was attending to problems like this as quickly as it could.

He urged residents to make sure that they report the matter to the relevant people to ensure the fastest possible outcome.
