International master classes for the Limpopo Youth Orchestra in city

The Limpopo Youth Orchestra had a visit from three international master musicians on Friday.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Youth Orchestra had a visit from three international master musicians on Friday.

This is part of a Music Road South Africa project of Crescendo International, a Christian movement with professional musicians and music students.

The purpose of the visit was to share technique and skills with the junior and advance members of the Limpopo Youth Orchestra through master classes for violin and cello.

The three musicians also visited Siloe School for the Blind before their visit to the Limpopo Youth Orchestra.

Master cellist Leana Alkena, who originates from South Africa but lives in Germany, worked with the cellists and master violinist Simone Strohmeier, who originates from Germany but lives in Switzerland worked with the violinists.

Master pianist, Dan Marginean, who is from Romania but lives in Switzerland, taught the advanced violinists how to compose music.

Sjoerd Alkema helped Bafana Baloyi, Limpopo Youth Orchestra conductor on the art of conducting. Sjoerd also helped Baloyi with the teachers and advanced students with their repertoire.

After their training sessions, the three musicians held a concert for the Limpopo Youth Orchestra to showcase their talent and technique.
