Church asks all men to be good influences

REVEREND Timothy Xaba of the Uniting Reformed Church has called on men to lead by faith and good deeds.

POLOKWANE – REVEREND Timothy Xaba of the Uniting Reformed Church has called on men to lead by faith and good deeds.

Xaba spoke at a men’s conference held in Westenburg in Polokwane on Saturday.

Addressing more than 500 men, Xaba said they must set good examples for their families and communities.

He said their actions must show that they were the children of God.

“Love and faithfulness help one to make the right decisions in life. If men can live positively and not engage in crime, they can bring change in their children’s lives and they will follow in the right steps,” said Xaba.

He said men had responsibilities such as taking care of their families and protecting them from the bad things.

“If you have wronged do not overreact, persevere and find ways to correct your mistakes,” he said.

Kgabo Kganyago, deputy chairperson of Christian men ministry, said they wanted to elevate men spiritually and increase their attendance in church.

He said they needed to be Christ-like and be typical examples of good deeds.

“Men need to serve their communities and promote good values. We want to attract and engage those who are not in the ministry.”

He added that he was happy the conference was held on Human Rights Day as they would celebrate South Africa’s history and fallen heroes in the house of the Lord.

“It is important that we know our rights as citizens, we must live responsibly and not abuse them. As men we need to respect other people and not take advantage of the vulnerable as a result of our physical strength.”

He further said the church must preach the Bill of Rights and promote the South African Constitution.
