Free WiFi while you donate

In a busy world where technology plays an enormous role, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) continuously looks at improving the donor experience.

POLOKWANE – In a busy world where technology plays an enormous role, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) continuously looks at improving the donor experience.

As of Monday, March 16, you will be able to use an hour’s free WiFi while you donate.

“Each donor gets a unique pin that they enter onto their device. They then have an hour’s free WiFi.

“After this hour, the WiFi will stop and the donor will only be able to use it again after 56 days, in time for his or her next donation,” says Dottie Pinn, SANBS Limpopo public relations officer.

SANBS national communications manager, Vanessa Raju, says there are 87 donor centres across South Africa that now offer this service.

“We know that many of our donors spend much of their time on social media platforms and downloading other applications, and now compliments of SANBS, you have 60 minutes of free access to the internet,” she says.

Donors who donate platelets will receive their free access for an hour every four weeks or their next visit.

Donors are also encouraged to take “selfies” and post them onto the SANBS’ Facebook or Twitter pages.

“I think this is a wonderful idea. Now I can read e-mails or do research while donating blood,” says Darrin Erskine, a donor and donor committee member.
