UPDATE: Water shortage

POLOKWANE – High-lying areas in the city are still without water after a cable in the transformer yard at the Olifantspoort water treatment plant was damaged which resulted in a power falure and water could not be pumped from the plant to the reservoirs which supply water to the city.
The areas affected are: Flora Park, Serala View, Ster Park, some parts of Seshego and the Extensions.
Matshidiso Mothapo confirmed that after the electrical problem was repaired yesterday morning, the plant had two consecutive pipeline bursts and water could still not be pumped to the reservoirs.
The pipeline bursts were repaired late last night and operations at the plant continued this morning.
“Water supply to the city is expected to be restored by tonight or tomorrow. We urge the community to use water sparingly as the city’s reservoirs levels are critical,” Mothapo said.
