POLOKWANE – International Day of Awesomeness was celebrated last Tuesday.
Review spoke to a few gr. R learners at Curro Heuwelkruin to find out what they believed constituted “awesomeness”.
Botaki Matsoku said awesome meant cool things.
“My house is awesome and so am I,” he said proudly.
For Rafael Roque da Silva to be awesome was being able to take photos.
“I am awesome. I do very well at soccer and rugby. Those are the best things. I have six girlfriends, but it’s a secret. I also have a hide-out with books and glasses,” he said.
Rini Legodi said the word awesome meant fun and she felt that homework was fun.
“My surname is awesome because I know how to spell it,” said Genesis Soobramani.
“Awesome also means great and thumbs up. I like making my bed by myself, but I still need help from my mom.”
Rachel Bester did not know what awesome meant, but said it could mean fun. She said her school was awesome, because it was fun to go there.
Kabelo Tau felt that to go to his house where he lived with his mom, dad and auntie was awesome. “It is also awesome to play and to kick balls.”
For Harry Marais awesome meant to ride on his bicycle with his brother. “I can ride bikes and go on a super tube and do awesome tricks, I am awesome,” he said.
Hailey Stolz said the fact that she can lift her body with her arms is awesome. “I can also climb walls,” she explained.
Nqobile Mlauzi said she was awesome because she was a model and good at netball.
Mosa Bapela said to be awesome was nice, but you must do your homework, then you are awesome. “Today I am extra awesome, because it is my birthday,” he said.
