LOUIS TRICHARDT – A pedestrian was trapped between a fence and a motor vehicle when a collision occurred on the corner of Kort and Jeppe Street on Sunday afternoon.

According to Morné van den Heever, who was an eyewitness, a vehicle failed to stop at the intersection where there was a stop sign and smashed into a second vehicle.
“The second vehicle hit a pedestrian who was walking with three other people. The pedestrian was hit and ended up trapped between a fence, a tree and the second vehicle,” Van den Heever said.
Van den Heever’s wife, Altie, said she was inside the house when she heard a loud crash.
“It was terrible. One woman was screaming loudly. I didn’t know what to do. The pedestrian was lying there and I gave her water. She could not even lift her arms to drink. I tried to calm everyone down. There was blood everywhere and the injured woman’s leg looked terrible. An ambulance came and emergency personnel treated her before taking her to the hospital,” she said.
Louis Trichardt police spokesperson, Const Irene Radzilane, said the police were investigating a case of reckless or negligent driving.
“It is alleged that two motor vehicles collided.
“According to the information received, one person was injured and taken to the local hospital for medical attention. The police’s investigation continues,” Radzilane said.
Altie visited the injured pedestrian at the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital earlier this week.
“She has a broken foot and a lot of abrasions and bruises. She is also complaining about backache,” Altie said.
She further said the injured woman would be transferred to a hospital in Polokwane shortly.
