Govt to look at qualifications

POLOKWANE – All government departments, their entities and agencies must implement public service regulations to deal decisively with applicants holding fraudulent qualifications, the acting director-general of the department of communications, Donald Liphoko, said last week.

He said government, taking note of the increased reporting of fraudulent qualifications, was determined to flush out public servants who misrepresented their academic qualifications and said it was important for all government departments; nationally, provincially and locally to guard against employing people with misrepresentations in their résumés.

Provincial spokesperson, Phuti Seloba, said it was very important that people with the correct qualifications be appointed as people falsely representing their qualifications take up jobs of people who may actually be able to do the jobs, having the correct qualifications. He said verification processes involving all government officials had to take place, and were done for all new appointments in the province.

“We must be seen as a credible government and retain our integrity by appointing the right people for the right jobs,” he said. Seloba said the provincial government took this issue seriously, and people found to be guilty of using false qualifications, would face internal disciplinary procedures, and could also be criminally charged with fraud.
