From humble beginnings to a holiday in Mauritius

To start from nothing and walk away with second place in a national competition is not an easy thing to do.

POLOKWANE – To start from nothing and walk away with second place in a national competition is not an easy thing to do.

However, Sophia Visser, the president of Cazabella designer costume jewellery in Limpopo and Mpumalanga did just that.

Visser was awarded the President Millionaires Club Award during the the Cazabella Awards, which were held in Johannesburg on February 7.

“I started direct selling for another company in 2003, and in 2004 me and my husband were both retrenched on the same day. I started doing direct selling full-time. In 2012, I moved to Cazabella. It is a young company and they had no agents in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. I now have more than 100 people working under me,” she said.

Cazabella is mostly known for their jewellery, but they also sell handbags and watches.

According to Visser, handbags and watches sell the most.

“My sellers are also the top in the country. I am now president over Free State.

“It is easy to become part of our winning team. You pay a connection fee and then you receive everything you need,” she said.

The mother of three said she had no idea what to do when she started, but learned each day.

“My husband says I am 200% introvert and I now need to approach people. You need confidence, you have to love people and you must be friendly. You need endurance, because there will be many people who say no to you. You must keep on going. Your relationships need to be good as well.”

She said in a typical day, she visited clients in the morning and did administration work in the afternoon.

As part of her prize, she won two tickets to Mauritius for seven days. “We will probably go in June or July.”
