LIMPOPO – The DA in Limpopo has discovered yet more schools without textbooks in Limpopo.
“Numerous schools in the Bakenberg area are still waiting for the Education Department to deliver textbooks for the 2015 academic year.
The discovery comes just hours after Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha boasted about delivering all textbooks to an estimated 1.7 million learners during his state of the province address on Tuesday.

Earlier this month the DA uncovered a warehouse in Seshego, Limpopo with massive stockpiles of undistributed textbooks. Today DA visited the warehouse in Seshego again, and after being locked-out by the Department staff, managed to find a view into the warehouse where the massive stockpile of textbooks still sits undistributed.
DA insists that Acting MEC for Education, Jerry Ndou, acts on this crisis NOW, tables an urgent turn-around plan to deliver all outstanding books at once, and then reports to the Limpopo Legislature on progress made. The DA will also be seeking an urgent meeting the acting MEC to discuss the delay of textbooks delivery to various schools across the province.
DA oversight visits reveal that learners in various schools are still waiting for textbooks in a number of subjects such as maths, physical science, accounting, EMS, maths literacy, tourism and business studies.
Schools visited include George Langa High, Mmantutule Seconday, Lehlotlo Primary, Mohlakaneng High, Leubaneng Primary. The schools are also without adequate furniture such as chairs, learner desks and educators desks.
During a meeting with Ndou, the DA will be seeking a detailed explanation from the MEC for failures to deliver textbooks, equipment and furniture, specifically in the rural areas.
