LIMPOPO – LILLIAN Mathebula, represented the Va-Tsonga tribe from Limpopo during the Indoni Miss Cultural South Africa competition, which was held in Durban in October, and won the title of Miss Ubuntu.

She said Indoni was a moral regeneration programme that targeted youngsters using cultural identity and indigenous knowledge to rejuvenate cultural behaviour.

“One person is selected per culture to represent that specific culture at national level every year. They are required to demonstrate their cultural heritage,” she said.

Mathebula won a R50 000 cash prize and would serve as an ambassador to help entrants in this year’s competition.

She said she would also be part of a team that would conduct workshops to teach entrants about indigenous knowledge and crafts, which prepared them for the competition.

“Being Miss Ubuntu automatically qualifies me to be part of the delegates that would groom young people around the country in terms of educating them about their culture and crafts, which will prepare them for the next competition,” she said.
