Thousands of undistributed textbooks in warehouse

“I have today written to the Limpopo acting MEC for education, Jerry Ndou, to demand that he establish an urgent plan to distribute millions of textbooks and workbooks stuck in a Seshego warehouse,” this is according to DA Limpopo leader Jacques Smalle.
During an oversight visit yesterday, the DA discovered millions of undistributed textbooks that the South African Post Office had committed to distribute, but now will not.
This new distribution crisis makes it impossible for the department to meet the deadline of delivering these textbooks on time, to learners who registered late or who have transferred schools since a first round of textbook distribution earlier this year.
The DA condemns the Limpopo department of education for again holding learners’ education back, by withholding textbooks.
“We urge the acting MEC to intervene in this distribution crisis which could leave learners without textbooks again for the fourth consecutive year now,” he said.
The DA will closely monitor the distribution of these books, and will continue to hold the MEC to account for this new textbook scandal.
