Westenburg Secondary School gr. 12 learners say they are ready to tackle the new school year.

POLOKWANE – Westenburg Secondary School gr. 12 learners say they are ready to tackle the new school year.

The learners say they have already started preparing for the exams and plan on improving the school pass rate this year.

Review asked some of the learners what they were looking forward to this year, what they thought would be the most challenging, and what their plans were after gr. 12.

Wilma Percent says she looks forward to the June examinations. "I told myself this year I want to work hard and get good marks. Last year I did not do that well, and I promised myself I will give it my best this year. I am also very excited and looking forward to the gr. 12 farewell. I already started planning my dress, but I must still decide on my date. I think maths literacy will be the most challenging this year, but I will work hard and make sure I pass."

Derlin Gertze says the gr. 12 senior certificate examinations will be the most challenging for him this year. "Gr. 12 means a lot of work, but I will study hard and reach my goals that I have set this year. I want to study law at the University of Stellenbosch. I look forward to working hard this year, being dedicated and self-motivated throughout the year and passing gr. 12. My goal is to be a role model for others and to push myself to do my best in everything I pursue in life."
Derlin Gertze says the gr. 12 senior certificate examinations will be the most challenging for him this year. “Gr. 12 means a lot of work, but I will study hard and reach my goals that I have set this year. I want to study law at the University of Stellenbosch. I look forward to working hard this year, being dedicated and self-motivated throughout the year and passing gr. 12. Rachel Moloto says after finishing gr. 12 she wants to join the South African Navy. "It has always been a dream of mine to be part of the navy. If I am not accepted by the navy, I would like to study drama at the South African School of Arts. This year I look forward to improve my grade levels so I can get good marks to pursue my career choice. Leighton Williams says he looks forward to passing his gr. 12 with bachelors. "I am going to work very hard this year so that I reach my goal. I must pass with excellent results so that I can study trafficking next year. I see myself as the next regional head of the Pretoria traffic department."

Japhter Rachidi says he has already started to prepare for the June examinations. "I try to study every day and make my own notes and summaries from whatever material we get at school. This will make life much easier for me when exam time comes, because I know gr. 12 means a lot of work." According to Japhter, he looks forward to long hours of studying and passing gr. 12 at the end of the year. "I am not sure what I want to study next year, but my three options are education, geography and law."

Khomotso Matlala says she looks forward to improving her marks this year. "After finishing gr. 12 I want to study medicine. I want to be an orthopaedic surgeon. I plan on working very hard this year to ensure my marks are good enough for me to go to university and achieve my dreams."

Luzandré Lukas says putting her social life on hold and only focusing on her schoolwork will be the most challenging for her this year. "It will be difficult to stay away from my friends, but I will push myself to put my social life aside, because it is a small, temporary sacrifice for success. One thing I am looking forward to this year is the matric farewell. I cannot wait." She further says she wants to study law at the University of Witwatersrand next year.
