R20 000 helps feed the needy in city

Meals on Wheels in Polokwane is very happy with a very welcome R20 000 donation from Silicon Smelters that they received last week.

POLOKWANE – Meals on Wheels in Polokwane is very happy with a very welcome R20 000 donation from Silicon Smelters that they received last week.

Meals on Wheels was launched in Polokwane in 1973. It is an interdenominational organisation and helps people by delivering 1 200 meals every Wednesday to destitute families all over Polokwane and Westenburg.

Residents also visit Meals on Wheels on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to receive food.

Cheryl Gibson is the kitchen manager and has been involved with Meals on Wheels since 1995.

She tells Review that all donations are welcome, especially vegetables, cooking oil, soya mince and other soya products.

“We also need mealie meal and spices. Clothes, new and second hand are also welcome,” says Gibson.

“Many people in and around Polokwane need help to feed their families,” said Hans la Grange, who is in charge of community services at Meals on Wheels.
