DA’s Maimane listens to woes of Mokopane’s residents

MMUSI Maimane, DA parliamentary leader, listened to the frustrations of the community of extension 14 in Mokopane regarding the struggle at the Mogalakwena municipality

MMUSI Maimane, DA parliamentary leader, listened to the frustrations of the community of extension 14 in Mokopane regarding the struggle at the Mogalakwena municipality on Tuesday. “I believe they should close the Mogalakwena municipality until all of the problems have been resolved and services are up and running again,” said Dolly Digashu member of Mogalakwena residents association, MRA.

Maimane said, “It has become very clear that the ANC has put the ANC as a priority and forgotten about the people. The police are not even obeying the court orders but are in fact responding to other political principals. It is clear that the priorities are no longer there. When a municipality is dysfunctional, there are consequences.

“The municipality cannot provide services to the community. It is no longer an investment destination where our people can be provided with work.

“It has become crystal clear to me, that as I have been going around here speaking to the community, that we must take clear and deliberate action to ensure that the municipality gets back to work and that those who disobey court orders must be met with legal action against them.

“We must investigate corruption and those who are corrupt should find themselves in jail. It is not a victim less crime as pres Jacob Zuma said, it is a crime against the people who do not have water or electricity.

“We see corruption rise and it steals more than 50 billion rand from the people of this country every single year. We must stand united against corruption!

Mmusi Maimane and members of the DA met with residents affected by the Mogalakwena struggle on Tuesday evening at the Potgietersrus Dienssentrum vir Bejaardes and assured them that the necessary procedures will be taken to stop this on-going struggle.
