Bright year awaits Limpopo learners

The department of education and schools in the city say they are 100% ready for the new school year.

POLOKWANE – The department of education and schools in the city say they are 100% ready for the new school year.

Education spokesperson, Paena Galane, said the department worked on several initiatives and programmes last year, which were set to be completed early this year.

“Significant progress has been made in ensuring that more schools comply with the basic level of schools’ infrastructure in 2014 and the department is looking forward to building on the groundwork that has been done,” he said.

The plans included:

• To provide 281 schools with a water supply by the end of March;

• To provide 42 schools with an electricity supply by the end of March;

• To provide 633 schools with sanitation by the end of March;

• To build a total of 1 397 classrooms by the end of March;

• To build 1 148 specialist rooms by the end of March, and

• to build 42 new schools by the end of March.

Schools including Hoërskool Pietersburg (PHS), Christian Achievers Academy and Laerskool Pietersburg-Noord (Noordskool) indicated that they were also ready for the new year.

Schools were due to open tomorrow (Wednesday).

PHS principal, Willie Schoeman, said the school looked forward to start the year and to do even better than last year in both academic and sports achievements.

Christian Achievers Academy principal, Norma Grant, said the school experienced significant growth from last year. She said she looked forward to bigger and better things in all spheres of school life this year.

“We wish the learners and their parents a blessed year as they support and assist Christian Achievers Academy to be a success,” she said.

Noordskool principal, Attie Visagie, said he was ready for new challenges.

“I look forward to making more good memories with the personnel and to have a positive impact on the lives of the learners,” he said.
