POLOKWANE – ANC stalwart, government communicator and former speechwriter for Nelson Mandela, Jack Mokobi, passed away on Christmas Day after a sudden illness.

Speaking at his funeral in Musina last Saturday, mineral resources minister Adv Ngoako Ramatlhodi said Mokobi had had a way with words.

“He could tell any story and you could be sure every word was true. You could take his word to the bank,” Ramatlhodi said.

Polokwane mayor Thembi Nkadimeng extended her deepest condolences to the family. She said she had been privileged to serve with Mokobi several times including in the communication services of the office of the premier and the ANC provincial media and communications sub-committee.

Mokobi’s family did not wish to comment and requested privacy during their time of mourning.
