ONE year after the death of Nelson Mandela, South Africans remember the impact that he had on the world and on their lives. Express speaks to a few Polokwane residents to hear how they remember Madiba.

POLOKWANE  – ONE year after the death of Nelson Mandela, South Africans remember the impact that he had on the world and on their lives.

Express speaks to a few Polokwane residents to hear how they remember Madiba.

Director Mokwatedi says Nelson Mandela was a man of integrity and he served the nation with dedication.

“He was an honest man and he brought equality to all South Africans, regardless of their race or gender.”

Mulalo Rmabulana says Mandela had a heart for children.

“He wanted every child to have an education and to grow up in a loving home environment,” she says.

Lehlogonolo Makweng.

Lehlogonolo Makweng says that Mandela is still her role model and he inspired her to treat people with respect and dignity.

“I admire Madiba’s fighting spirit. He fought for what is right and fair for all South Africans. I wish our current leaders could learn from his leadership and make this country a better one to live in,” she explains.

Machete Manyelo says Mandela was and still is an important person.

“We must celebrate and honour him every day. I believe as a nation we are all proud of what he did for this country and his leadership will always be remembered.

“I encourage people to keep the history of Madiba alive by sharing stories of the good things he did for our country with their children.”

Shahbaz Azar says Madiba did not discriminate and that he will never forget how Madiba spoke about love, peace and unity.

He says he wants people to practice the love that Nelson Mandela preached so that South Africans can live side by side peacefully.

Munzhelele Ramabulana says she will never forget the way Madiba united different cultures through sport .

“I remember in 1995 when the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup. Mandela made all South Africans realise that anyone can enjoy or play rugby and today I am a huge rugby fan,” she says.

Hafiz Gulammiran is happy that he is able to express his freedom of speech and he thanks Madiba for making this country a better place to live in.

He explains that this country is a peaceful country and he enjoys his stay and wishes other countries could be as welcoming to foreigners.
