DA withdraws from the Mogalakwena muni

THE DA in Limpopo has decided not to participate in any political activity in the Mogalakwena municipal area until the situation at the municipality is back to normal.

MOKOPANE – THE DA in Limpopo has decided not to participate in any political activity in the Mogalakwena municipal area until the situation at the municipality is back to normal.

Mogalakwena DA councillor, David Phokela, said the DA had submitted a letter to the Mogalakwena Municipality on Friday informing them of this decision.

According to Phokela, this decision was made due to the continued political squabbling and instability in the municipality that had halted all basic services.

“The DA does not recognise the current structure, as we question the legality of its formation.

“In the last few months, residents have witnessed endless political infighting, and court cases that led to the police also becoming factionally involved.

“It is clear that the ANC does not care about their people anymore, but are putting their own interests first,” he said.

“We cannot afford to be caught in the middle of political squabbles and be used by other political parties to fight their own battles,” he asserted.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, said the police acted according to the law and they did not take sides.

He said the DA had raised unfounded allegations.

“Municipal buildings are state owned. As the police, we have to protect these buildings. We have been engaging with both parties from the start.

“The DA should tell us where they received that information. They should tell the people the truth.”
