Night of the Stars acknowledges the top achievers of department

The department of roads, safety and liaison will launch their annual Arrive Alive campaign in Bochum on Sunday.

POLOKWANE – The department of roads, safety and liaison will launch their annual Arrive Alive campaign in Bochum on Sunday.

This was announced by the MEC for transport, safety and liaison, Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana, during the department’s Night of the Stars event at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort last Thursday.

Guests at the event included the head of department, Hanli du Plessis, who thanked everyone involved in the planning of the event and all departmental staff for their hard work.

Musicafella, a jazz band from Johannesburg, entertained the guests.

The purpose of the event was two-fold; Mokaba-Phukwana wanted to acknowledge the department’s achievers and interact with the media after the event.

Top achievers:

• Performance Management Review (PMR) Awards: Gateway Airports Authority Limited (GAAL) won a PMR diamond award.

•Public service innovator of the year and innovative service delivery institution award: Jojo Diesel Tanks, Waterberg district.

• National drivers of the year who represented South Africa during the International Union of Professional Drivers (UICR) Championship in Poland: John Mdebuka, Titus Maphanga and Ambricious Maselesele.

• Members from the department of roads, safety and liaison also won a number of sport stars awards for their achievements at the Limpopo public servants’ sports day.

There were two tables reserved for the media and Mokaba-Phukwana spent about 45 minutes at each table. Media representatives had one on one discussions with the MEC on matters that included the department’s relationship with the media, issues the public faced that the department should address and the department’s plans for the future.

The evening ended with a photo session with the MEC and the top achievers.
