POLOKWANE – As part of their endeavour to support the Eco-Schools Programme, Stanford Lake College personnel participated in a grassland rehabilitation project recently.

The Eco-Schools Programme is an international programme by the Foundation for Environmental Education and is active in 51 countries around the world.

The Eco-Schools Programme was initiated in South Africa in 2003, with the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa as implementing agent. The aim of the programme is to create awareness and action around environmental sustainability in schools and their surrounding communities, as well as supporting education for sustainable development in the national curriculum.

More than 1 200 schools are registered with this programme.

Stanford Lake College marketer, Rona McGaffin said the school saw the need to participate in the programme to educate learners and the community about the importance of grasslands rehabilitation.

“We all had fun taking part in the project and we hope to do it again in the near future,” she said.
