Interns graduate from programme

University graduates who were placed under the provincial government's Public Service Professional Programme recently graduated from the programme.

POLOKWANE – University graduates who were placed under the provincial government’s Public Service Professional Programme recently graduated from the programme.

The graduation ceremony was held at Bolivia Lodge.

The Public Service Professional Programme, which is also known as the internship programme, is a work-based training programme that offers trainees work experience related to their field of study in order to complete their qualifications. The programme started in January.

Kebotile Mahasha, who spoke on behalf of the interns, said they were ho-noured to be the first group to be part of this programme.

“The skills we learned will not only benefit us, but the province as a whole. It will be great if the provincial government absorbed us into departments,” she said.

She thanked everyone who supported them.

The acting premier, Rudolph Phala, congratulated the graduates and urged them to keep up the good work.

“I hope all the graduates remain in the province and add value to the provincial administration,” said Phala.

He said learning was a life-long process and young people should study hard to become better people in the future.

Beverly Pillay of PWC, who were the independent auditors of the programme, said one of major problems the country had was youth unemployment, and the Public Service Professional Programme aimed to equip young people with the necessary skills to find employment.
