MOKOPANE – THE Mokopane Business Chamber is concerned about the situation at Mogalakwena Municipality. The political infighting between various factions of a specific political party, as played out on the grounds of Mogalakwena Municipality, is not only damaging to the reputation of Mokopane as a safe town to invest in, but can also be a breeding ground for violence that erupts and then spreads into adjacent streets and the business centre of the town, the chamber said recently.

The business chamber therefore requested a meeting with the police to express its concerns in this regard. The meeting was held on November 11 at the chamber’s office and will be followed up with a second one on November 14, where the SAPS will give feedback.

The SAPS were represented by Capt Tlou Mofya and Irene Masingi. The business community representatives were the president and vice president of the Mokopane Business Chamber, Piet de Bruyn and Andy Goetsch respectively. Corinus du Toit represented AHi, to which the business chamber is affiliated.

Various options and suggestions by both parties were discussed. A direct line of communication has now been established between the police and business to specifically handle marches and other gatherings.

Business owners are in the meantime urged to use common sense on how to safeguard their business premises when marches take place.
