Wheelchair donation helps Mateka (8) and his family

EIGHT-year-old Mateka Matjieng’s disability forced him to crawl in order to move around until two good Samaritans, Rev Tommy Makhubela and Japisa Mathonsi from the Abba Worship Centre Concept’s social outreach programme, came to his salvation last Tuesday.

Makhubela said he was deeply affected when he saw the boy from Nobody-Ga-Mothiba near Polokwane crawling around without a wheelchair in 2007.

He said he prayed to God to provide a wheelchair so that Mateka could move around easily.

“God answered my prayers and I will sleep well tonight, because we gave Mateka a brand new wheelchair.

“With the help of Japisa Mathonsi, we have helped many people through our social responsibility programme,” Makhubela said.

The boy’s mother, Rebecca, said she had been struggling to get a wheelchair for her son and it seemed as if nobody cared.

“I thank the reverend for coming to our rescue. We have seven children, but my son’s disability grant helps a little.

“It was difficult to carry him on my back when I had to take him to Mankweng Hospital.

“Now I will be able to to push my boy to school, hospital and church in this beautiful wheelchair,” she said.

Mateka’s father, Daniel, said he used to work for the South African National Defence Force and took a severance package in 1997.

“We rely on this boy’s disability grant for our family’s survival. We thank Rev Makhubela for coming to our rescue,” he said.
