POLOKWANE – The mayoral charity golf day took place on Friday with a full field of golfers teeing off for this prestigious annual event.

This event has ensured charity organisations in Polokwane receive much-needed funding from the mayor’s office since the inaugural event in 2010, when former mayor, Freddy Greaver, initiated the golf day.

Current mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng, followed in Greaver’s footsteps by continuing this initiative and she thanked all the golfers and sponsors who opened their wallets to relieve suffering in the community.

“For me this was a beautiful day,” Nkadimeng said.

“It is notable that, since the inception of this event, the municipality has ensured the funds raised through the golf day help so many families and so many individuals.

“This initiative ensures the municipality puts a smile on the faces of those in need. We give food to those who have nothing to eat and we give some extra care to our homebased caregi-vers,” she explained.

“We thank all our sponsors for participating in this event and for helping us strive towards becoming a more caring society,” she continued.

Greaver, Kenny Mboyana, Pule Southon and Nola Peceur won prizes for the longest drive competition, while Phil Mashekane, Pat Molepo and Stefan Blount won prizes in the nearest to the pin competition.

In the women’s division, Nola Peceur secured the top spot with 39 points, followed by Penny Mathe in second place with 37 points.

In the men’s A-division, Adam Milanzi won the grand prize with 40 points followed by Zipho Ngobeni in second place with 40 points on a count-out.

In the C-division, Kenny Mboyana took the honours with 46 points, followed by Simphiwe Mdlalose in the second place with 42 points.
