Music legend Mayor’s death a blow for Lim

THE local music industry is mourning the passing of gospel singer, Malesela Manthukhu Charles Mamabolo, who was known as Mayor. Mayor passed away last Wednesday.

THE local music industry is mourning the passing of gospel singer, Malesela Manthukhu Charles Mamabolo, who was known as Mayor.

Mayor passed away last Wednesday.

According to his manager, Piet Sethe, Mayor’s started his music career when he was 14, when he formed the group, Segopye Sound Singers at Byatladi High School.

He recorded three albums, Ha le Ratana, Modimo o tla Bona and Ke Mang o a ka Timang Mollo that enjoyed much air play local radio stations. He was in the process of recording his fourth album when he died.

Mayor worked with musicians such as the late Matome Rabothatha, Gerald Lekhowa, Samuel Tsakama, Mathews Malemela and Lesiba Phoshoko.

He is survived by his mother and father, his three sisters and his six children.

“We are saddened by Mayor’s death and we send our sincere condolences to his family. We pray God be with them through this trying time,” said Sethe.

He said his death was a loss for the music industry.

A memorial service will be held for Mayor at Segopye, Hlakolela tomorrow (Thursday) and he will be buried at Segopye Hlakolela Cemetery on Saturday.
