Polokwane Municipality asks residents not to waste scarce water

The water levels of the city's reservoirs dropped to an alarming 20% last week.

The water levels of the city’s reservoirs dropped to an alarming 20% last week.

Residents complained about water shortages in some high-lying areas of the city.

The areas affected were Bendor, Ster Park, Fauna Park, Flora Park and Serala View.

Residents in the affected areas received an SMS notification from the municipality on Thursday urging them to use water sparingly as the water levels of the reservoirs were below 20%.

Tidimalo Chuene, municipal spokesperson, said the city experienced high water wastage and asked that residents use water sparingly and to stop watering gardens to avoid further water shortages.

“On Wednesday the reservoirs at Krugersburg went down from 30% to 10% from 14:00 until 18:00 and this is clearly an indication of water wastage,” Cheune said.

On Friday the Krugersburg 50Ml reservoir was at 20%, Krugersburg 30Ml reservoir at 14%, Potgieter reservoir at 75% and Seshego re-servoir at 24%.

“Today (Monday) the 50Ml reservoir is at 25% and the 30Ml is at 38%, Potgieter reservoir at 89% and Seshego reservoir at 72%

“This is still very low and we plead with residents to please use water wisely. All residential areas have water,” Chuene said.

Water issues can be reported to the municipality at (015) 290 2376.
