Scrub and lick of polish spruce up Westenburg Secondary

It seems activities at Westenburg Secondary School are back on track, with learners, teachers and the community working together to make a difference at the school.

It seems activities at Westenburg Secondary School are back on track, with learners, teachers and the community working together to make a difference at the school.

A receptionist is manning the school’s reception office, where visitors must report and sign a register.

There is also a notice at reception of when parents are allowed to see the principal, a timetable of the classes and a list of the teachers for each grade.

On Friday, the learners and teachers embarked on a cleanup campaign at the school. They cleaned every classroom, which included washing and polishing of the floors and cleaning the windows.

There was a locksmith at the school to repair broken locks on the classroom doors and the gate.

The community pitched in and helped with the repairing of about 200 broken desks.

The school received a number of drums from a sponsor who wished to remain anonymous. The drums will be used as bins in each classroom.

At the end of the day, the learners each received a food parcel, which included rice, samp, beans, vegetables and other foods.

This was part of the school feeding scheme.

Acting principal, Jimmy Steele, thanked the learners for their hard work and the community for assisting.
