Counselling in the clinic loo

THE Perskebult Clinic in Mmotong, just outside Polokwane, uses a bathroom as a consultation room for their HIV/aids prevention of mother to child transmission treatment and HIV/aids counselling.
This is according to spokesperson for the DA legislature caucus, Stephen Mbedzi, who said members of the DA caucus conducted an on-site inspection of the clinic on Saturday.

According to Mbedzi, the clinic personnel faced several challenges daily including a vaccination store room that allegedly has no cooling system and stores other items, a shortage of pain medication, a shortage of oral contraceptives, only one working telephone, no suitable waiting rooms and no water warming facilities.

He also says that the lack of room at the clinic reduces patient privacy to almost nothing and the fact that patients have to wait under a veranda that was turned into a makeshift waiting room raised security concerns.

He also raises the issue of the small birthing room at the clinic and says the DA caucus is concerned about the quality of care to a mother in labour in a room that “can hardly accommodate one person”.
Mbedzi says the DA caucus in Limpopo will write to health authorities to bring the plight of this clinic to their attention.

Health spokesperson in Limpopo, Macks Lesufi, expressed his shock when CV spoke to him about the situation at this clinic. He said such conditions were unacceptable.
Lesufi said he would provide a complete reply to CV’s questions after he has visited the Perskebult Clinic.

Vaccinations, files and other medicines are all stored in one storeroom at the Perskebult Clinic that has no cooling system to keep the vaccinations fresh.
