Caught red handed with hot goods

Five people appeared before the Polokwane magistrate's court after they were arrested for the possession of suspected stolen goods

Five people appeared before the Polokwane magistrate’s court on Monday after they were arrested at the Ivydale smallholdings for the possession of suspected stolen goods on Friday night.

Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, Westenburg police spokesperson, said the suspects, four men and a woman, remain in police custody and the case was postponed to later this month for bail applications.

The police confiscated goods to the value of more than R150 000, which included six plasma TVs and three amplifiers.

“No one has come forward to claim their goods, so we appeal to residents, if their goods were stolen to please visit the Westenburg police station to claim their goods,” Mashiane said.

Still in the Westenburg policing area, the police arrested five people for public drinking and two for the possession of marijuana. All seven suspects appeared before the Polokwane magistrate’s court and their cases were postponed for seven days.

The police also closed five illegal shebeens in Disteneng.

“The owners were issued fines and we confiscated the liquor. This was part of the police visibility operation. Together we can make a difference and make our communities safe for all to live without fear of becoming victims of crime.”
