The date of the opening of the town’s public swimming pool, June 30, has come and gone with the project not completed to date.

Review reported in May about the beginning of the construction of the swimming pool, at which Makhado mayor David Mutavhatsindi was also present.

“We are living in a peaceful country. There is no instability in South Africa. We need to pray for South Africa to stay peaceful.

“Today we are in our orange overalls and not in smart clothes, and with that said the day that the swimming pool open on June 30 I will be here in my swimming costume swimming,” he said.

The completion date was also confirmed by the municipality’s community services director, Johannes Kanwendo. “This project is a R496 000 project; we want to make sure that all the machines are working for the swimming pool, this project will be completed on June 30. We have taken the shortage of water in consideration and therefore decided that a borehole will be implemented as well as water tanks to make sure that water will not be a problem,” he said.

Residents now question why the swimming pool has not opened yet.

Municipal spokesperson, Louis Bobodi, said according to the contractor there was a delay in securing the specific types of materials needed. “We are not sure about the new completion date,” Bobodi said.
