THE Vhavenda king, Toni Mphephu Ramabulana will work with a team of traditional leaders to promote the Vhavenda culture and customs.

This was revealed at the Royal Gardens in Thohoyandou on Friday after a 10km fun walk that started in Ha-Majiga and ended near the Nandoni Dam.

The aim of the fun walk was to raise awareness about living a healthy lifestyle by embracing sport in the Vhavenda tradition, as well as preserving heritage.

Traditional affairs deputy minister, Obed Bapela, said traditional leaders had a role to play in democracy and they should ensure culture and traditions were promoted in communities.

“People should not be ashamed to speak their own languages and they must be able to preserve and restore their culture and traditions.

“We are working very hard as a department to help restore the culture and tradition of our people,” Bapela said.
