Muni manager removed

THE Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) acting municipal manager, Adelaide Monyepao, has been removed from her position.

THE Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) acting municipal manager, Adelaide Monyepao, has been removed from her position.

This was revealed during a recent special GTM council meeting.

Monyepao was named acting municipal manager of GTM in May last year and her appointment would have been for a period of three months.

However, Monyepao remained in the post for 16 months.

According to mayor Ralepane Mammekwa, Monyepao’s contract had already expired on August 31 last year.

“It won’t take long before the post is filled and we will avoid running the municipality without an accounting officer.

“The interview panel for the municipal manager and chief financial officer posts will include the mayor, representatives from the department of cooperative governance, human settlement and traditional affairs (Coghsta) and officials from the Sekhukhune District Municipality.

DA councillor Lethabile Kgwedi suggested that the municipality employed one of the current directors for the post, but according to him, this suggestion was ignored. Kgwedi further stressed that there were people from Tubatse who were capable of filling the position with ease.

The Tubatse Residents’ Association (TRA) previously protested outside the municipal buildings, alleging among other things that Monyepao had approved her own salary without receiving approval from council.

They demanded that she be axed, saying she had allegedly covered up wrongdoings by intimidating workers and threatening to pursue whistle-blowers.

One of the community members, Junior Mlambo said they were happy with the decision by the council to finally get rid of Monyepao.

“Let’s hope her departure will improve service delivery in Tubatse,” Mlambo said.
