Children’s initiative for Mandela Day

POLOKWANE – Children from Westenburg and Rainbow Park united for a clean-up campaign in Westenburg to spend their 67 minutes in honour of Nelson Mandela on Friday.

The children, aged between four and 14 years, picked up litter in the area and cleaned up in front of the Good Hope Primary School.

“We wanted to be part of this special day and we agreed to pick up litter in support of Mandela Day. We each brought a refuse bag from home and started cleaning.

“We did not just focus on one area, we wanted to pick up as much litter as possible. The others cleaned in front of the primary school. Sometimes children think they have to wait for their parents or other adults to tell them what to do, but now we have proven to our friends that if you want to make a change you can use your own initiative and make a difference,” Carlia Scheepers said on behalf of the group.
