THE minister of basic education and president of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL), Angie Motshekga, said she still believed the ANC would increase its support base in Limpopo, even if opposition parties gained support in other provinces.

Motshekga spoke at an ANCWL rally at Frans Mohlala House, the ANC’s headquarters in Polokwane.

She said although the EFF and the DA gained a lot of support in Gauteng, the rest of South Africa stood behind the ANC and that the ANC would still win the elections comfortably.

Motshekga spoke about domestic abuse and said the ANC could not stop men from beating up their wives, because they did not control people’s actions in their homes. However, she said the ANC had done much for women’s emancipation and freedom over the past 20 years.

She acknowledged that there was still much to be done for women’s rights in South Africa.
