New leadership for Lim ANC

The ANC Limpopo's newly-elected provincial executive committee (PEC) is a fair combination of talent, skills and political experiences

The ANC Limpopo’s newly-elected provincial executive committee (PEC) is a fair combination of talent, skills and political experiences but the conference undermines the Mangaung resolution that says all members facing serious allegations of mismanagement shouldn’t avail themselves for election at the ANC elective conference.

This was political analyst Elvis Masoga’s observation over the provincial ANC elective conference that took place over the weekend.

“Surprisingly the conference decided to elect Nocks Seabi as secretary of the PEC while he is still suspended at his workplace,” he commented. Seabi was suspended from his duties with full pay by the Limpopo Tourism Agency’s board in October last year, pending an investigation into his alleged non-compliance with the Public Finance Management Act and treasury regulations.

“The combination of factions resurrected the former provincial secretary of the ANC, Soviet Lekganyane, who was previously thrown out into the wilderness,” Masoga further commented.

Over the weekend, the contest for the ANC Limpopo’s chairperson turned into a one-horse race when public works MEC, Dickson Masemola, withdrew at the eleventh hour.

Masemola’s withdrawal allowed premier Stanley Mathabatha to take the position of ANC chairperson uncontested.

The position of treasurer went uncontested to Thembi Nwendamutswu. “The former South African ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jerry Ndou, was elected as the new deputy chairperson. This was a position tipped to go to Joe Maswanganyi. Makoma Makhurupetji was elected as deputy secretary. In his address as the newly elected ANC chairperson, Mathabatha said he could never allow the ANC not to develop and forge ahead just because of the devastating effects that tribalism and factionalism had on the party and its members.

He said the ANC in Limpopo’s key task should and would be to build unity and stability in the ANC.

“When a provincial executive committee member is deployed to address a meeting in the branch or region, he or she should not cause any factionalism. Avoid becoming a member of another member’s faction, be a member of the ANC. The morale is growing again in Limpopo.”
