MEC visits 2 schools in Mokopane

AS part of the provincial government's Back to School campaign, the MEC for economic development, environment and tourism, Seaparo Sekoati, visited two Mokopane schools last Wednesday.

AS part of the provincial government’s Back to School campaign, the MEC for economic development, environment and tourism, Seaparo Sekoati, visited two Mokopane schools last Wednesday.

Accompanied by Mogalakwena mayor, Tlhalefi Mashamaite, the department of education district senior manager, Ndo Mangala, members of student organisations and the Limpopo Legislature, Sekoati visited Nkakabidi Secondary School and Waterberg High School.

Waterberg obtained a 100% matric pass rate in 2013, while Nkakabidi obtained a 44% pass rate.

Sekoati said the aim of the visits was to encourage the schools and to determine their readiness for the new academic year.

He said challenges such as a lack of proper buildings, equipment and furniture should not prevent academic excellence nor be used as an excuse for poor performance.

Mashamaite said the municipality was proud of all learners who did well in the 2013 senior certificate examinations.

He said teachers should encourage hard work.

“We plead with principals to report challenges during the year and not wait for visits such as these to report their problems,” Mashamaite said.
