Celebrating Women’s Day for our strength, resilience

At Review, the majority of the staff members are female so we decided to find out what Women's Day means to them.

POLOKWANE – As we celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, to some people, it is just another public holiday and a day off from work or school. But it’s much more than that.

At Review, the majority of the staff members are female so we decided to find out what Women’s Day means to them.

We asked why it is important that we celebrate Women’s Day and what they think makes a strong and unique women and this is what they had to say:

Maghbura Rugber (debtors clerk) says a strong woman is someone who has the ability to smile through pain and still be humble while inspiring others to greatness. She is courageous and inspires other towards greatness.

Aubretia Solomons (debtors clerk) says that celebrating Women’s Day is celebrating women as pillars of this world. To her, a strong woman is attributed to women’s values and their ability to rise above the trials and tribulations of life. She says that “women can turn any negative into a positive outcome”.

Magda Heinlein (financial manager) says on Women’s Day, it is important to focus on women in the community and their achievements as well as their ability to overcome pain and abuse. Magda says a strong woman is a woman who has self confidence, is protective and caring. Magda states it is important for the youth to know about Women’s Day.

Josephine Buys (receptionist) says Women’s Day means the right to express oneself in society as women and to show strength in unity. “It is a day to celebrate our strength and resilience as women as shown by the women of 1956”.

Mariana Kearns (human resources manager) says Women’s Day is important as it raises awareness of the long way that women have come over the years in proving themselves given that there are still people who see women as inferior.

Mariana says what makes a woman strong is her ability to do the right thing amid resistance and standing up for those who cannot fend for themselves. It is also her ability to make tough decisions remaining sympathetic at the same time.

Gomie Seabi (digital editor) says that Women’s Day is important as it reminds us of the women who stood together in unity to make their voices heard showing courage and strength.

To Gomie, a strong woman is someone who loves selflessly and cares for others without asking for anything in return.
