Waterberg District Youth Indaba a huge success

THE Waterberg District Youth Indaba held at Oasis Lodge from July 8 to 10, which was made up of local municipalities in the district was a great success.

MOKOPANE – THE Waterberg District Youth Indaba held at Oasis Lodge from July 8 to 10, which was made up of local municipalities in the district was a great success.

The indaba promoted the theme: taking South-Africa forward, healthy lifestyle is our concern, at the indaba.

The provincial senior manager of maternal, child and women’s health (MCWH), Pinky Sekotlang, young people from all local municipalities, doctors and a team from Mokopane and Voortrekker Hospitals, Red Cross and nurses from the Mahwelereng Youth Centre, as well as Alice Nkoana, provincial youth and adolescent manager and Patrick Mbuyiselo Tsibolane, CEO of Mokopane Hospital were part of the youth indaba.

Speakers spoke to the young people regarding different subjects from their reproductive health rights to the dangers of drugs and substance abuse.

At the indaba, the following commissions were addressed and resolution were made:

• Unemployment.

• Teenage pregnancy and HIV/aids.

• Drug and substance abuse.

On the last day of the Indaba, the attendants took a fun walk from Oasis Lodge to Voortrekker Hospital and back to raise awareness for these commissions.

The indaba ended with the hand-over of a memorandum of resolutions to Tsibolane and to Nkoana on behalf of the district manager of Waterberg district, Aldina Ntsewa.

Nkoana said these resolutions would reach the highest office in the province. “I will make sure it reaches the office of the MEC for health.”

Sekotlang, who also organised the indaba, told Bosveld the indaba was a great success and that Tsibolane and Nkoana were very exited for the future. “We look forward for these resolutions to be put in place and for future events.” Sekotlang thanked all the sponsors, the young people for their attendance, Tsibolane, Nkoana and Dr Danny Mokumo, from the Mokopane Hospital for their part in the success of the indaba.
