LITTLE PINK FEET: Mbalenhle is a flower to be nurtured

Faith Manzini, the mother of Mbalenhle who is two months old, tells Review that her baby girl is like her namesake, her flower.

POLOKWANE – Imagine meeting someone for the first time and experiencing a love unlike any you have experienced before: from joy and attachment to anxiety and protectiveness. Faith Manzini, the mother of Mbalenhle who is two months old, tells Review that her baby girl is like her namesake, her flower. Mbalenhle is her flower; she is going to nurture her and watch her grow into a beautiful, self-confident woman.

She said that becoming a mother is like discovering a strange new room in the house where you already live. “Everything changed in my life, I had to adjust to the wonderful new feeling of being a mother,” she says.

Manzini said she only found out about her pregnancy when she was starting her second trimester. According to her, she never had morning sickness or any signs of pregnancy.

“I was four months into my pregnancy when I realised that there was something growing in me. I gained weight, but ignored the fact that I might be expecting,” she explains. She further says that from the minute she found out, she had maternal feelings of overwhelming love and a fierce protectiveness. For her, the baby shower was perfect. From the decorations, the food, music, games, and the theme to all the wonderful gifts. “It was a surprise shower and my family went all out to organise it, the theme was all white and everyone was dressed accordingly and to top it all off was the breathtaking cake,” she says.

Naming her baby girl was a difficult task as everyone made beautiful suggestions but she couldn’t use all of them and she decided on Mbalenhle because she reminded her of a beautiful flower.

“Although the apple of my eye doesn’t sleep during the night, I still value her a lot and she keeps me on my toes. I now understand what it means to be a mother,” she says.

Even though Faith had a long labour, her heart melted when she held Mbalenhle and she suckled her fingers.

“Bath time is still a challenge because she is so tiny and I sometimes feel like she will slip and fall in the bath tub,” she concludes with a fond smile.
